Team Ocean Lanka Joins the walk and blazes a trail !!

Over 80 team members of Ocean Lanka participated in the Trail 2016: The Walk Back, with the aim of raising USD 5 million to build a cancer treatment facility as part of an extension of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle. The Colombo leg commenced on the 25th of October 2016 from Ja-Ela at ended at Galle Face while throughout the walkers who participated were encouraged to collected donation and create awareness amongst the general public for this worthy cause.

Ocean Lanka had been a partner of Trail Sri Lanka from its inception in 2011 where Sarinda Unamboowe and Nathan Sivagananathan together with the Colours of Courage Trust initiated a charity walk from Southern Dondra Head and ending at Northern Point Pedro with the aim of raise USD 1 million to build a cancer treatment unit as part of an extension of the Tellippalai Hospital in Jaffna. With the support of over 30,000 walkers and more than 250,000 donors, USD 2.6 million was raised and an entirely separate cancer hospital was built in 2014 named Tellippalai Trail Cancer Hospital.

This year Ocean Lanka partnered with Trail 2016: The Walk Back in the capacity of Bronze Sponsor.

The solid fuel we purchase and consume is Rubber Wood which is a waste product from the Cultivation of Rubber Lands here in Sri Lanka.

Eco Dyeing: Ocean Lanka goes Greener and Faster

In the second half of 2013 Ocean Lanka completed the installation of 21 new low liquor ratio TEC Series High Temperature Dyeing Machines from Fong’s. This entirely new operation, part of a two phase project due for completion in August 2014, sees the removal of older and larger vessels, replacing them with brand new smaller and more flexible energy and time saving machines. By introducing a significantly greater number of smaller machines, Ocean has reduced lead times, increased flexibility on order quantities and maintained its 45 ton per day capacity.

Tree Planting Day

As part of the companies ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility projects, 560 Ocean Lanka staff travelled North to Kbithigollawa and during the course of the day planted 25,000 saplings across an area of land measuring 16 Hectares.

School Library Construction

In support of the local community, Ocean Lanka donated a newly constructed Library built inside the Yatihena School, Biyagama. A library is not complete without something to read and with support of its key suppliers, Ocean was able to present the library with over 2,000 books inside.
